Dungeness Crab Tagging Project
The Dungeness Crab Tagging Project, funded by the California Sea Grant College
program, collects data on the natural mortality rates and movements of male Dungeness crabs. Fishermen from Eureka, Trinidad, and Crescent City voluntarily return tagged crabs to collection barrels. The data are used to regulate harvests.
Captain Jim Gullett of Wind Rose Charters, a Trinidad Bay fishing charters company, has collaborated with Humboldt State University Department of Fisheries Biology faculty and staff to tag more than 8,300 male Dungeness crabs for the project.
