GENERAL INFORMATION

What is included in the price of a shared fishing charter?

  • All fishing gear
  • All bait and tackle
  • All safety gear
  • Fish cleaning and filleting
  • No hidden fees such as gas surcharge, harbor use or even sales tax
  • Captain Jim’s fishing guide services
  • USCG licensed and insured care

Can I bring my own equipment?
Everything is provided, however you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The captain will let you know if something you plan on using is unsuitable.

What is not included in the price of a shared fishing charter?

  • You will need a California fishing license, which you can purchase at the Boat Basin when you check in (if you don’t have one already). Currently a 1-day license is $10.75. If you’ll be fishing for salmon, you’ll also need a punch card at $1.25. Fishermen under age 16 will not need a license.
  • Tips. While tipping is not expected, it is certainly appreciated. So feel free to tip if you feel it is appropriate, but don’t feel obliged.
  • Ice is available for sale at the Boat Basin.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
All ages except for the very young are welcome. A five hour trip away from shore is just too long for little ones.

What if I am inexperienced at ocean fishing?
Everyone is welcome aboard the Wind Rose regardless of their fishing experience or level of expertise.

How should I dress?
We recommend that you dress in layers and wear a jacket and comfortable shoes with good traction. Expect cool, possibly wet weather.

What else should I bring?

  • You are welcome to bring any food or beverages you like.
  • You may want to bring food and drink in a cooler and then use the cooler to pack fish home. We don’t recommend the use of styrofoam coolers.
  • You might also consider bringing: sunscreen, lip balm, hat, sunglasses, rain jacket, gloves, camera, video, and binoculars for birdwatching, whale watching and such. If your ears are sensitive, you might want to bring cotton balls for comfort.
  • You may want to bring cash for tipping or picking up last minute supplies or souvenirs at the Boat Basin.

Who cleans my fish?
Your captain will clean and fillet your fish for you. :)

Is there a bathroom on board?
No. However, there are facilities available on the pier as well as in Seascape Restaurant.

Where can I find directions to the dock?

OTHER THINGS TO SEE AND DO

- Visit the many gift shops and museums around Trinidad

- Enjoy some of the most photographed beaches and tidepools in the world. There is a really terrific beach that is easily accessible right from the parking lot at the pier. The entrance was on your right as you entered the parking lot at the bottom of the hill. Due to strong currents, swimming is not generally recommended.

- Visit the Humboldt State University Aquarium and Marine Laboratory.

- For more information on the wide variety of state parks, six rivers, miles and miles of beaches, festivals, small towns and extraordinary variety of people - including one of largest populations of artists per capita in California - visit the Humboldt County and Convention Visitors Bureau.
