Salmon Fishing: Both the 2008 Recreational and Commercial Salmon Seasons have been CLOSED. You can read more here. Prior to this year, we commonly caught King Salmon and Silver Salmon. You could keep King Salmon (”Chinook”), but had to release Silver Salmon (”Coho”).

Rock Cod or Bottom Fishing: When people use the terms “rockfish” or “rock cod” in a general way, they are actually referring to a complex array of rock cod.
- Black rock cod are by far the most common catch here in the Northwest (about 70-80% of our catch). Most “black snapper” (as we call it here locally) is actually black sea bass otherwise referred to as “black rock cod” or “black rockfish”.
- Other common catches include: Ling cod, Vermillion rockfish, Cabezon, Kelp Greenling and Rock Greenling
- Here are some other varieties you may find on the other end of your line: Blue rockfish, Canary rockfish, China rockfish, Yellowtail rockfish, Quillback rockfish, Tiger rockfish, Grass rockfish, and Copper rockfish
2008 Rock Cod Fishing Information:
Crabbing: We will drop our crab pots on the way out and pick them up on the way in. Dungeness Crabs are the variety common to our area. Crabs are divided equally among everyone aboard. There is no extra charge.
2008 Crab Fishing Information: The recreational fishery for Dungeness crab (Cancer magister) is open in Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino counties from November 24, 2007 through July 30, 2008.
